Following a cooperation request a treaty was signed between medical staff of the Hemodialysis Ward (Steyr hospital), the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Steyr hospital) and the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria. This cooperation comprises of six bachelor theses, proposals are already accomplished. Currently, the students are writing their theses, which should be finished at the end of January 2025.

Term: 15.05.2024 — 30.06.2025

Six physiotherapy bachelor students are currently writing their bachelor theses covering various aspects of intradialytic training. Different scientific methods, e.g. a scoping review, a systematic review and qualitative designs via interviews are applied. These efforts should clarify the possible effects of intradialytic training (strength training and endurance training). Suitable research for scientific evidence will depict the current international procedures. Necessary requirements for a patient-centered and safe implementation of such a training will be described. The qualitative studies will explore facilitation and barriers for an active intradialytic training from the patients´ and the medical staffs´ perspective. After finishing these theses, it will considered if and how an implementation in daily practice might be possible.
