Research Focus

The University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria has defined two central research priorities: effectiveness research in care and therapy, and dementia.

These topics were selected in a multi-stage process based on interviews with stakeholders, an analysis of existing research activities, and a comparison with other universities. Researchers' perspectives were incorporated in an internal workshop before final approval was given by the university management. The focus areas are based on existing expertise, a high degree of practical relevance and social relevance.

Through innovative projects, the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria contributes to overcoming current and future challenges in the healthcare sector. Research and development activities address trends at the interface of care, research and innovation – in an interprofessional, interdisciplinary manner and in close cooperation with partners.

Ethical reflection is a central component of all research activities. The Institutional Ethics Board of the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria accompanies research projects and ensures that ethical standards are adhered to and social responsibility is fulfilled.

Research is closely linked to teaching and practice and is guided by the mission statement of the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria, which focuses on health and quality of life. Evidence-based action is a consistent principle in all study programmes. Students acquire the ability to critically question, scientifically evaluate and further develop measures. At the same time, current research results flow directly back into teaching – they enrich education, promote reflection and strengthen the connection between theory and practice.
