SALSA Health - Telerehabilitation for people over 55 years of age through mHealth apps in physiotherapy

With age, the performance and independence of people decrease. This is often further increased by illnesses and injuries. In addition to movement restrictions and problems in carrying out activities of daily life, there is a reduction of participation in social life and consequently in the quality of life.

Term: 01.06.2020 — 30.04.2022

With age, the performance and independence of people decrease. This is often further increased by illnesses and injuries. In addition to movement restrictions and problems in carrying out activities of daily life, there is a reduction of participation in social life and consequently in the quality of life. In order to positively influence these processes and to increase the well-being of the persons, an active lifestyle and sufficient physical activity are particularly crucial. Also, with the help of new innovations and digital technologies (e.g. smartphones, tablets), efforts are being made to promote physical activity among the elderly, to improve their health and to enhance their individual quality of life.

Within the framework of the European project SALSA, LIFEtool non-profit GmbH and partners are therefore developing an app-based solution to support an active lifestyle of elderly people aged 55 years and older. While SALSA Fun is used in the leisure sector, SALSA Health can be used by physiotherapists as a telerehabilitation technology. Through the selection of different video exercises and exergames, for instance, individual training programs can be created for patients at home.
The FH Gesundheitsberufe OÖ GmbH provides scientific support for the development and testing of SALSA Health in this project.
