Dysphagia in Upper Austrian homes for the elderly and nursing homes (carried out by the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria)
The demographic development shows, that the elderly population and very elderly is increasing more and more in society. Therefore more illnesses occur (stroke etc) which among others can lead to dysphagia. Difficulty in swallowing in turn increases the risk of malnutrition.

Aim of this project
- Study on the actual situation of geriatric dysphagia patients in long-term care in Upper Austria and awareness of the issue
- current use of resources in the institutions
- Diet overview and ensuring the nutritional supply to affected patients
- Recommendations with regard to nutritional medicine / dietary supply
